DESCRIPTION: This radio belongs in its own section called, "You Snooze You Lose." Olympic Electric of Long Island City was a relatively short lived manufacturer that vanished too soon leaving behind some of the most sought after designs of the period. This model starts with a recognizable clam shell cabinet design, fairly common at the time, but succeeds with something new and totally fresh looking. Tabletop Tube AM radio manufactured by Truetone in 1950's excellent plus condition. Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without need of external antenna attachment. Cabinet is original molded cool mint green color plastic not repainted. The front white grill is in excellent condition. No yellowing. No chips, cracks, dents, scratches. No repairs. No repaints. None needed. Knobs are original and nicely yellowed to a deep golden color. The gold metal inserts are not missing which is common, but pitted and tarnished. This radio is almost 60 years old! No dial light. Not designed with one. No missing ink, smudges, or rub-off on dial lettering. The tuning dial works fine. The power cable is securely attached. All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. The power cord and plug are good original working condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment no pets. When this radio was new, tailfins were all the rage!
