Alien or Art Deco Mid Century Vintage 1951 Sonora Excellence Model 211 AM Shortwave Vacuum Tube Radio Mon Dieu!
DESCRIPTION: Stunning good looks like the grill of a 1937 Bugatti Atlantic, but also would not look out of place in Giger's Alien spaceship! This radio has excellent audio sound quality and picks up lots of stations on shortwave and AM bands. I wasn't able to pick up anything on police bands because I live in the 21st century. Loud and clear sounding. No cracks, splits, abrasions, or missing material anywhere on the cabinet! All original molded factory mirror glossy Bakelite no repaints or repairs. None needed. Original factory grill cloth is 100% intact with no rips, no stains and no separated edges. All original knobs, dial pointer, etc are present, working, not missing, and securely fastened. Fancy mirror-ized tuning dial glass has a small chip on the lower right corner no cracks. All printing is clear and legible no flaking no rub off. The dial face shows various European countries. Neat! No missing numbering, dots or dashes, or anything. No smudges or yellowing. The dial light works and illuminates with amber glow behind grill cloth. Needs external wire antenna with banana plug which is included. This radio is over 70 years old! The unit powers on and off with a definite click. The on off volume knob works and adjust volume evenly. The tuning and volume dials work fine no slipping no sticky spots. The tone knob works but tonal modulation is weak. The band selector switch works with definite position clicks. This radio has a phono function which can be selected using the band selector. The original cardboard back panel is in excellent condition. All out of spec capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. The replacement power cord and plug is in excellent working condition with no cracks, or splits or electrical tape repair. No exposed wiring. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment.
