Hornet Green and Black 1953 Philco Model 53-701 AM Vacuum Tube Radio Early Tech Age Look! Sounds Great!

DESCRIPTION: Early tech age look. This design is amazingly prescient to have captured an almost 80's tech look back in 1953! The combination of boxy proportions with low sleek profile, day glo green accents ( as bright a green that could be had back in those days), and grid pattern clock face was an early visualization of the future that was actually pretty accurate. Nowadays, this look is almost synonymous with all things high tech. Put it this way: modern day X-box is trying to capture a similar look. Even more fascinating to the expert observer is the juxtaposition of its internals which are so paradoxically old tech. Tabletop tube AM radio manufactured by Philco in excellent+ physical and working condition.  Cabinet is original molded black Bakelite which is probably colored with pitch. The little green knobs are molded in green not painted. There is only one model clock radio from any manufacturer of this period with these colored knobs so don't lose them! The clock and tuning numbers appear to be factory painted green not rubbed off not discolored. No repaints. No touch-ups. No over spray. No cracks, chips, or major scratches anywhere! This radio is over 50 years old! The tuning dial works fine. The knobs are original and securely attached. The little green button that covers the hole that would used for the sleep timer below 6 o'clock is original not missing. The volume on off knob turns on with a definite click. Clock works and keeps accurate time. Clock motor is silent no humming no buzzing no ticking noises. The alarm works. No alarm buzzer wake to music only.  The clock and alarm set function work. The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. No dial light. Not designed with one. But one can be added for an extra charge. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Original power cord is in excellent condition no cracks no splits. No fatigue by the interconnect. No exposed wiring. Factory original backing board is in excellent condition and securely attached. All factory labels are intact read-able yellowed with age. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment.
