Savoy Pink Golden Age Art Deco 1948 Continental Model 1600 AM Vacuum Tube Clock Radio She's A Bombshell!
DESCRIPTION: This is one of the classiest looking clock radios ever made. If radios had movie personas, this one is Marlene Dietrich or Hedy Lamarr. So debonair so cosmopolitan. The contours and ergonomics couldn't be more resonant and graceful. Set your alarm and wake up in Casablanca! AM tabletop tube clock radio manufactured by Continental in the 1948 time frame still in fair working condition. The fact that this radio picks up any stations at all makes it a rarity among Conti Model 1600s. Most are poor receivers even after complete electronic repairs. This radio electronic design is sub-par compared to RCA, Zenith, Motorola, or others of that ilk. This design uses 5 tubes but only one intermediate frequency transformer (IFT). Most models of the day use two IFTs. What this radio lacks in reception quality and volume, it makes up for with good looks. The clock is better quality than counterparts of the day. Maybe that's where they blew their budget. This radio has a very golden age of radio look. A tiny chip is on the top edge of the radio. Pink is a rare color to find in the late 40s. All knobs, dial pointer, etc are present, working, not missing. The volume know is a non-original replacement. The little gold metal clock knobs are original. Nice touch. Excellent art deco design! Original pink plastic cabinet is mirror-like glossy condition. No cracks, no chips, no major scratches. All original factory molded color. Not repainted, no over spray, no touch up. None needed. Clock works and keeps accurate time. Clock is quiet. Clock set works. No alarm. No dial light but one can be added. This radio is over 70 years old! All the dial numbering and lettering is crisp and clear. Better shape than other 1600s. Look at the neat Art Deco-ish type font! No missing numbering, dots or dashes, or anything. No smudges or yellowing. The back panel is good usable shape. Made of flimsy light grade cardboard, most surviving examples backing board are usually deteriorated. The tuning and volume dials work fine. The unit powers on and off with a definite click. All out of spec capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. The replacement power cord and plug is in good working condition with no cracks, or splits or electrical tape repair. No exposed wiring. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment.
