Turquoise and Wicker Vintage 1949 Capehart Model 3T55B AM Vacuum Tube Radio Totally Restored and Sounds Wonderful!
DESCRIPTION: Here's another beautiful design from the uninhibited Capehart design team. Rare design from a somewhat rare manufacturer. This is a tabletop tube AM radio manufactured by Capehart in late forties or early fifties in excellent+ working and physical condition.
CABINET CONDITION: This is a turquoise painted cabinet that has been repainted with factory matching turquoise paint. No cracks, chips, splits, or major scratches. The front wicker is original material no rips, no fraying, no holes, no discoloration. The wicker material serves as a striking counterpoint texturally to the turquoise painted Bakelite.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
KNOBS: Knobs are original and securely attached. All the dial numbering is crisp and clear. No missing ink, smudges, or rub-off on dial lettering. The tuning dial works fine and is securely attached.
LABELS: No missing factory labels or stickers.
DIAL LIGHT: No dial light. Not designed with one.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. Both Intermediate Frequency Transformers (IFTs) have been rebuilt to ensure static-free performance. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. Has original built in metal screen heat shield. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
POWER CORD: The original gray power cord and plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits. Base interconnect not fatigued.
BACKING BOARD: Original backing boar dis in excellent condition. No cracks, no chips, securely mounted.
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, or pets. Was probably used in or near the kitchen for much of its life.
HEAT SHIELD: New fabricated heat shield has been installed internally underneath top to minimize heat damage.
