Forest Green 1953 Philco Model 53-562 Vacuum Tube Radio Sounds and Looks Great! Civil Defense Relic!
DESCRIPTION: Tabletop vacuum tube AM radio was manufactured by Philco in 1953 in excellent physical and working condition! This radio model offers one of best examples of any radio manufacturer marketing to Americans on the fear of cold war era Civil Defense broadcast receiving capability. See the little battleship, aircraft, and microphone icons on the tuning window.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM and civil defense "Services" band stations clearly and loudly around the dial without need of external antenna attachment.
CABINET CONDITION: Cabinet is original factory dark green plastic. No cracks, chips or major scratches or missing pieces. All original factory molded colors through and through. Not repainted, no touch up, not over sprayed. Front clear plastic tuning cover is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or major scratches. All civil defense CD markings and numbers are clear not rubbed off.
KNOBS: Factory original matching knobs are in excellent condition and securely attached not yellowed with age. No missing knob gold metal inserts. The tuning dial works fine no slipping no sticky spots.
LOGO: No missing logos.
DIAL LIGHT: No tuning or clock dial light. But can be added for an extra charge.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected.
CLOCK: No clock
POWER CORD: Brand new replacement power cord and safety polarized plug are in excellent condition. No breaks, no splits, no repair with electrical tape, or other. No exposed wiring.
BACKING BOARD: Factory backing board is in excellent condition and securely mounted. All original four factory t-pins for backing board mounting.
FACTORY LABELS AND STICKERS: No missing bottom factory labels.
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, or pets.
