Avant Garde Lavender Grey 1954 Emerson Model 816 Series B Vacuum Tube AM Radio Rare! Excellent Plus Condition! Sounds Great!
DESCRIPTION: Avant garde looking design from the early to mid fifties. Tabletop vacuum tube AM radio manufactured by Emerson in 1954 time frame in excellent working and physical condition.
CABINET CONDITION: The cabinet is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, or major scratches. Original factory molded gray urea plastic through and through. No repaint. No over spray. No touch up. Urea plastic is a higher density plastic compared to polycarbonate and styrene based plastics. Slight rub off on dial numbers. Original factory gold grill fabric is in excellent condition with no rips, seams, bubbling, or separated edges. Small crack on clock clear cover at approximately 12 o'clock.
SOUND QUALITY: Picks up AM very clearly and loudly around the dial without external attached antenna. The reception selectivity and sensitivity is excellent around the dial.
KNOBS: Original matching factory clear plastic tuning and volume knobs in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, or broken attach posts. Original clear plastic clock function on/off knob.
DIAL LIGHT: None. Not designed with one but can be added for an extra charge.
CLOCK: Clock works and keeps accurate time. Clock motor is silent no humming no buzzing no ticking noises. Alarm works. Wake to music. Sleep timer works. Clock time and alarm set time work.
LOGOS: Original factory Emerson indent logo and original gold paint fill is in excellent condition not flaking.
INTERNAL ELECTRONICS: All out of spec capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. Both Intermediate Frequency Transformers (IFTs) have been rebuilt to ensure static-free performance. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. The set has been aligned according to factory specifications. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection.
POWER CORD: The new replacement power cord and plug are in excellent condition with no cracks, or splits.
BACKING BOARD: Original factory backing board is cracked and broken off at the top edge.
FACTORY LABELS: Mostly intact, missing corner but mostly readable.
PROVENANCE: Previous owner identity is not known. Was gently used then stored in a dry cool environment for a long period of time. No evidence of prolonged exposure to cigarette smoking, moisture, cooking grease, pets or carpet.
