DESCRIPTION: Try and find another one! The geeks at Silvertone really overdosed on low-budget science fiction movies when they came up with this monster. If you're looking for fifties sci-fi design in a boisterous color and a tweed grill, look no further. Tabletop Tube AM radio manufactured by PSilvertone in 1950's excellent working condition with MP3 ready conversion. Includes 3.5mm to mono RCA cable. Just plug in your MP3 player; iPod, iPAD, iPhone, or Android. Switch from MP3 to AM radio with rocker switch installed on back panel. Cabinet is original molded "ice blue" color. The front tweed grill is in stunning condition. No cracks on top. Wow! There is a small hairline crack at the bottom underneath on the right side. Knobs are original and securely attached. One of the knobs has some normal wear patina. This radio is almost 60 years old! Dial lights brightly on both sides. No missing ink, smudges, or rub-off on dial lettering. The tone dial signal wave scale is a preposterous attempt to look high tech. Dual speaker! Tone knob works. Radio/phono switch works. On/Off/volume pull knob works. The tuning dial works fine but it only travels from 700 KHz to 1100 KHz not 550 KHz to 1600 KHz. You can receive all the stations from 550 KHz to 1600 KHz. The tuning dial only travels from 700 KHz to 1100 KHz on the dial scale. Weird. Perhaps this was a faulty factory design. I've never come across another example of this model so I cannot verify if it came like this. The power cable is securely attached. All paper and wax capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. There is no loud or pervasive hum. There is no loud or pervasive static between stations. The power cord and plug are good original working condition with no cracks, or splits. No exposed wiring. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment no pets. When this radio was new, Orson Wells radio broadcast freaked everyone out with thinking that Martians were going to land on Earth!
