Hunter Green 1953 Philco Model 53-562 Transitone AM Radio with Civil Service and Sounds Great!
DESCRIPTION: After WW2, the country was rife with fears of aerial attack. The result was Civil Defense, whereby civilians can be alerted to jump to safety underneath tables and desks. What was taken very seriously back then now seems just novel. Tabletop tube radio manufactured by Philco is in excellent cosmetic and working condition. No chips, splits, abrasions, or missing material anywhere on the cabinet! Has crack on bottom that has been repaired. All original knobs, dial pointer, etc are present, working, not missing. Backing board is intact and in very good condition. Usually, these backing board go missing or get damaged. Has original Civil Defense switch on back which is working! Holy cow. This vintage radio picks up AM stations clearly and loudly up and down the dial without external antenna attachment. You will be the only ones on the block who are prepared in case of air raid! All the dial numbering and lettering is crisp and clear. Clear dial plastic is original with very little hazing or yellowing and no cracks. No missing numbering, dots or dashes, or anything. No smudges or yellowing. Dial lights up brightly. The original knobs are ivory plastic and securely attached. The tuning and volume dials work fine. The unit powers on and off with a definite click. Takes a bit longer than other radios to warm up, approximately a minute. The original bottom label is intact. All out of spec capacitors have been replaced with modern equivalents so this radio has another 50+ years or more of playing time! The tubes are working fine. All out-of-spec resistors have been replaced with modern correct value and voltage equivalents. Power cord and plug is in excellent working condition with no cracks, or splits or electrical tape repair. No exposed wiring. The radio has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. All wiring has been thoroughly checked for possible bridging and weak solder connection. Comes from non-smoking, mature, clean professional environment.
